No matter where you are in life; a teenager, newlywed, new parent or set in a career, sometimes you just need some extra cash. There are many ways to make a few bucks on the side, most of which you can do from home or on your own schedule, that take no specialized training.


Before we get too deep into what legitimate jobs you can try, know this: when searching the internet for your side gig, watch out for scams. Anything that requires you to pay money upfront should be suspect.


The past few years have exploded with people working in home-based, remote, and time-flexible side jobs. Bloggers, Social Media Managers and Web Designers are 3 of the most popular. But there are other ways that get much less press that we want to share here.


Virtual Assistants

This year’s hot job is as a Virtual Assistant. This job is a great way to put your administrative and organizational skills to work for bloggers, Entrepreneurs, and other businesses in a virtual atmosphere.


All it takes is a computer, an internet connection and a drive to succeed. Duties could include follow-up phone calls, emails, bookkeeping, customer service, websites, and social media.


A VA can often find work on job boards like Upwork or Fiverr.


Proofreader

If you have a computer, an internet connection, a good command of the English language, and an eye for detail, you can work as a Proofreader. Proofreaders are hired to search through documents, books, and blog posts for errors.


Proofreaders that can specialize in certain areas – such as proofreading transcripts for court reporters.


Transcriptionist

Businesses and bloggers using podcasts and videos to reach their audiences often need a transcriptionist to turn their work into written content for marketing or training materials.


Medical, Legal and Governmental transcriptionists are more qualified, requiring additional specialized training.

These jobs can be done freelance with a computer and internet connection.


Online Tutor

With the right set of skills, becoming an online tutor can be a great way to make some extra cash. Online tutors are needed for many different subjects. Make sure to do your research for reputable companies when applying for online tutoring jobs. For general tutoring jobs, try sites like Tutor.com and Varsity Tutors.


Online tutoring jobs may require a degree or professional certificate. However, some jobs only require some sort of prior tutoring or coaching experience.


Selling Online

Selling items on eBay, Shopify or other online storefronts is a great way to make some cash quickly if you are willing to spend some time scavenging for treasure.


Buy designer clothes, coins, collectibles and other unique items at thrift stores and yard sales, and resell them online.


Sell Your Photos

A free app called Foap is a platform to turn your photos into cash just by downloading the app and creating an account. Then, upload your photos to the app’s marketplace.


Users who like your photo may buy the license to it for $10. You make $5 For each sale.


Taking Online Surveys

Surveys can be a decent way to make a small amount of extra pocket change without much effort.


Companies like Survey Junkie, Vindale Research and EarningStation pay in cash or gift cards.


Watching Movies

InboxDollars will pay you to watch movie previews, celebrity videos and the latest news. Playlists may run from just a few minutes to an hour, and you must watch the entire list to get paid. The availability is subject to change, but it’s possible to earn up to a couple hundred dollars a month.

Food Delivery Driver

Try delivering groceries, takeout and even retail purchases with Postmates. You’ll take home 100% of your earnings when you make a delivery – no service, booking, or transaction fees like other apps.


Doordash

As a “Dasher,” you can work as much or as little as you want, earning a $6 fee for each delivery, plus 100% of your tips. All you need is an insured vehicle, a bicycle and a smartphone.
